Locally owned and operated audiology clinic.
As an independent clinic, we are not owned by a specific hearing aid manufacturer, which means we are able to offer a wide range of choice with our hearing devices. Your needs and preferences will be put first when making any recommendations and you will be well supported throughout your hearing journey.
You will be in good hands.
At Hobart Hearing Care, you will be seen by an audiologist with accreditation from Audiology Australia, which means that they have each completed a recognised masters degree from an Australian university and they abide by Audiology Australia’s Code of Conduct. Working with an Audiology Australia Accredited Audiologist ensures that your hearing professional will provide services lawfully, safely and with your best interests at the forefront.
We can help you hear better, right now.

Frequently Asked Hearing Questions

Audiologists are healthcare professionals who can provide testing for ear, hearing and balance disorders. Such as hearing loss, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), ear infections, and vertigo. They also provide rehabilitation for those with hearing difficulties by fitting hearing aids, listening devices, ear protection, and counselling around tinnitus and communication. Audiologists often collaborate with medical professionals like GPs, ear nose and throat (ENT) surgeons and physiotherapists when appropriate.
-
An audiologist is a healthcare professional with advanced training in testing for and treating hearing and balance disorders. In Australia, an audiologist must have at least a Master’s degree in clinical audiology, and meet the regulatory standards of a professional body, such as Audiology Australia or the Australian College of Audiology (ACAud). Audiologists may specialise in areas such as cochlear implants, bone-anchored hearing aids and fitting hearing aids to children.
Audiometrists in Australia must have at least an Australian Diploma-level Technical and Further Education (TAFE) vocational qualification in audiometry, and meet the standards of a professional body such as ACAud or Hearing Aid Audiology Society of Australia (HAASA). Similarly to audiologists, audiometrists can perform hearing tests, remove earwax and fit hearing aids; however their scope of practice is more limited than that of an audiologist.
A ‘hearing specialist’ often refers to an individual who dispenses hearing aids, but may not have any particular qualifications in the field of audiology.

No, you do not need a referral to visit an audiology clinic in Tasmania. You can book an appointment directly with Hobart Hearing Care over the phone or via the online booking page. If your doctor has recommended a hearing test as part of a medical investigation and has provided a referral, you will be eligible for a Medicare rebate on the appointment fee.
-
If you have private health cover including extras, you may be eligible for a rebate on your appointment and/or hearing aids. We can provide a tax invoice with the necessary details to support a private health insurance claim. Unfortunately, our HICAPS terminal is unable to provide the rebate at the time of your appointment.
-
If you are experiencing any hearing issues, it is advisable to see an audiologist who can assess your hearing and provide appropriate treatment or refer you to a doctor if necessary. If you have pain or changes in the condition of the skin in or around your ears, we recommend seeing your GP.
