Hearing Aid Fitting or Trial
When hearing aids are set up to your specific requirements, this is called a “fitting”. This includes ensuring the aids fit well physically and feel comfortable, as well as making sure that the sounds and settings are right for you. Hearing aids have a small processor chip within them, and this can be programmed based on your unique hearing levels; for example, if you have more trouble with higher pitches, the output of the hearing aid will be louder at those pitches. Hearing aids are usually set up by placing tiny tubes in your ear canals to take measurements of what the hearing aids’ output is. Alternatively, they can also be set up in a “test box”.
Once your hearing aids are set up, your audiologist will then discuss the practical side of wearing hearing aids; how to put them in, how to take them out, how to keep them clean, how to change the batteries, how to change the settings such as volume, and some general “dos and don’ts” that are important to know. You will then have a follow up, approximately 2 weeks after your fitting appointment.
Want to try before you buy? We offer a 2-week trial of the hearing aids of your choice. You can often find hearing providers who will offer a short trial, such as 24 hours or up to a week. We are firm believers that a trial period of hearing aids should be 2 weeks long. This allows for your brain to “adapt” to the hearing aids in a process called acclimatisation. During the trial, you will be treated to the full “Fitting” experience and be able to try the hearing aids out for 2 weeks before you make the commitment to purchase them. If you are happy with the hearing aids and wish to keep them, you can simply pay for them at the follow up. Please note, terms and conditions apply.
