Annual Hearing Review
Maintain Optimal Hearing with an Annual Review
For those with hearing aids, a regular review is crucial to ensure that your devices are optimised for the best clarity and comfort. At Hobart Hearing Care, we recommend a hearing review every 12-18 months. This review not only checks the effectiveness of your hearing aids but also evaluates any changes in your hearing. Our audiologists are here to support you in achieving better hearing outcomes for a fuller, more engaged lifestyle.

What to Expect During Your Annual Hearing Review
Our annual hearing review includes the following:
1. Hearing Re-Assessment: Each visit includes a hearing screen to monitor any changes. Changes in hearing may impact your current hearing aid settings, re-testing allows us to provide any necessary adjustments to support your hearing health effectively. If you feel as though you’ve experienced major changes to your hearing, or it’s been a few years since your last full hearing test, we can offer a longer appointment, where we perform a comprehensive hearing test prior to adjusting your hearing aids.
2. Hearing Aid Check-Up: Your hearing devices will be thoroughly checked for optimal functionality. This includes a clean, inspection of disposable parts (like earpieces and tubing) and replacement of these if needed. Our goal is to keep your devices performing well so your hearing aids are reliable.
3. Output Measurements and Adjustments: The audiologist will measure the output of your hearing aids to confirm that each pitch is set to give you the best sound clarity. This can be especially important if your hearing has changed since your last appointment, as we may need to adjust specific pitches to improve speech understanding. If you have any issues with sound quality or hearing in specific situations, your audiologist will work with you to fine-tune your hearing aids to optimise your experience.
4. Assist With Hearing Aid Management: If you have any questions or concerns regarding your hearing devices, or need some assistance with management (e.g. cleaning the hearing aids, streaming from your phone or using the hearing aid’s App) your audiologist can help you with these during your Annual Review appointment.
Why Choose Hobart Hearing Care?

Annual Review Eligibility and Costs
If things have been tracking reasonably well with your hearing aids, the Annual Review is a 40-minute appointment that attracts a fee of $100. If it has been a few years since your last comprehensive hearing assessment, or you feel as though there are quite a few issues to work through with your hearing devices, we recommend booking the ‘Annual Review and Hearing Test’ option, as this allows for additional time (75 minutes, appointment fee is $188).
If you have private health cover with extras, please check with your health fund provider whether you are covered for ‘Audiology Consultation’. If so, you may be able to claim a rebate on your annual review appointment.
Unfortunately, there is no Medicare funding for Annual Review appointments; however, for clients who are eligible for services through the Hearing Services Program (HSP), you should not be out of pocket for these appointments. Our clinic can assist in determining whether you are eligible for the HSP, to help you access and afford high-quality hearing care. Contact us to discuss costs and HSP eligibility.
